Where has the time gone?

I feel like we just kicked this year off, and now its already coming to a close. Although I am sad that the time has flown by, I am so excited for the coming year. The past 2 years have been such a roller coaster for our family, and although I don't quite see the end of the ride yet, I have high expectations and only good thoughts and plans for the year to come!

I haven't been as diligent as I would have liked to have been with this blog, but that is another thing that I hope will change in the new year. I have missed several occasions and for that I apologize (especially to my kids, whose birthday celebrations didn't make it onto the blog).

This is my favorite time of year, and I am so excited that it is December!

Birthday Time!

4 years ago (yesterday) we were sitting in a hospital room holding our newborn Baby Girl! We were so ready for her to be here with our family. At birth apparently she had contracted some kind of infection and we were told she would have to stay in the hospital for observation until they were sure it was gone. I was mortified because they weren't very informative about how serious it was and I couldn't get a good feel of how worried we needed to be! She had to stay in a special nursery and only Trev & I and grandparents were allowed in to see or hold her. She had to have an iv and at one point they weren't able to put it into her tiny little hand, so they had to put it in her forehead. I cried! I remember being so paranoid during my pregnancy with her about something going wrong because I wanted this baby girl so badly that I just felt like it was too good to be true! I remember making the ultrasound tech check several times just to be sure it was a girl! And sure enough it was! Josslyn Grace was born late at night on the 15th of August!

We are so happy we get to have her sweet little spirit in our home, and have loved watching her grow into the sassy little princess she is!

School, School, School

So we are one week into school... and the kids are loving it!

We have ended up with all 3 boys at different schools! Fletcher started school at one school with Evrett, but they only offered free half day Kindergarten. Fletch has been in Preschool for 3 years, and is soooo beyond ready for full day Kinder. He would come home before noon and be so bored all he could think of to do was to torment his poor sisters. Needless to say, half day just wasn't working out! So I found a school that offered free full day Kinder, and was able to get him in on a boundary exception. Hallelujah!!! The school is about 10 minutes away, but worth every minute we spend in the car! He loves it and I feel so much better having him there.

In other school news... Miss Josslyn (and Harper) started Preschool today!!! I am going to be the Teacher's assistant in the class, so Harper (even though she is not old enough yet) gets to be in the class too! We are so excited to go have fun with new friends twice a week and get ready for Kindergarten next year! The girls had a great time and can't wait to go back!

Parker has adjusted so well to being in "Middle School" and is doing great in his class. He has decided that he wants to learn to play the Cello, so he will be starting Orchestra this week! He is also looking forward to perfecting his drawing skills by participating in an after school cartoon drawing class. This kid loves to draw!

Evrett is also doing great in his class, and is making new friends every day! He is doing so good at reading, and math, and he has some really mad coloring skills! I have never seen a kid that can color as good as Ev! (He gets it from me!)

All in all I think this is going to be a really GREAT school year!

It's hard for me to believe, but after 3 years of Preschool

my baby boy is going to school with the big boys!

Fletcher started Kindergarten, so he an Ev get to ride the bus together!

Evrett is in 2nd grade this year!

It's Ev's turn to be the big bro. on campus.

He has done a great job taking care of Fletch and making sure

he knows where to go and what to do!

Parker is in 5th grade and gets to attend

"Middle School"

This made us a little nervous, but as usual he

has impressed us with his ability to adjust and fit the role

of a middle schooler!

They grow up too fast!

Different school means different bus for Parker!

His school starts later and gets out later than E & F's,

so he gets to hang out with the "BIG KIDS" to wait for his bus.

This weekend we took a family vacation with some friends to San Diego!

We went to Sea World & to the Beach!!!

at the Shamu show! Not sure they felt the same way once it started!

Harper on the other hand, thought the sand was GREAT!

Lesson learned the hard way:

Apparently when you use spray on sunblock, you have to spray the WHOLE area that you want protected from the sun!

Otherwise your kids come out looking like a tiger!!!

It was a great weekend!

Memorial Day/Burk Family Campout 2011

This years campout turned out to be one we will not soon forget!

The weekend started out with lots of fun...

quad rides, zip-lines, swings, and lots of cousins to play with!

They had so much fun on the zip-lines and shooting but I didn't catch

any of it... so sad!

Ev was happy that Dad let him steer on their quad ride!

DIRT EVERYWHERE!

The real fun began on Saturday evening around dinner time.

Trac and I had gone out on one of the quads... and came back to everyone

yelling and screaming at us to hurry and for me to jump in the car.

Joss had been riding in the kids train (you won't really know what that is unless you know the Burk family... sorry!) and it had apparently hit a big rock and tipped over.

Joss smacked her head on a trailer that was parked nearby, and had a huge gaping cut on her eyebrow. I jumped in the car and we headed to the urgent care in Williams, which was about 10-15 minutes away. Luckily we got there right before they closed, and they were able to stitch it all up. Not without a good fight from Joss though. She kicked and screamed the whole time. They finally had to wrap her up so that she couldn't move. Anyways... they ended up having to do 2 layers of stiches because it was so deep. 3 stitches inside and 5 stitches to close up the cut. Then there was a little cut underneath her eye, and they put 1 stitch in there too. It was sooo sad!

This was a couple hours after the accident, when we finally got back from

urgent care.

Ahh... still smiling! Sweet girl!

She was a trooper the rest of the time we were camping!

The next morning she was up and running around like nothing happened.

Everytime she would happen to see her reflection in the window or mirror, she would be surprised like she didn't remember that she was hurt.

Poor baby!

It is now 5 days later and it looks so much better!

Our Little Ballerina

Last year Josslyn started taking ballet...

and she has become quite the little ballerina!

She is always walking around on her toes, flitting around like a little

butterfly!

In December we went to watch her teacher

and some of the older classes perform The Nutcracker!

Afterwards we snuck backstage and got this picture with The Sugar Plum Fairy,

who was played by Miss Robbin... Joss' teacher!

Here she is showing off some of her ballet moves before her class started!

Her class just ended, and they had a little performance for family

to come and see what they worked on this year!

They got special tutus and crowns, and it was soooo adorable!

I was really nervous that she would be too scared, not dance and cry the whole time.

She did AWESOME!!!

She even got flowers from her adoring fans!!!

Harper can hardly wait to be out there dancing too!

Joss has loved taking this class, and can't wait for class to start again!

Great month for Birthdays!

I don't know how we worked it out (heaven knows it wasn't planned!) but we have somehow managed to have 2 kids in August and 2 in February! Now we just need one more in October and we would be all evened up! (Nooo... that is not the plan!)

Evrett & Harper's birthdays are only 6 days apart... with Valentine's Day

right smack dab in the middle!

Sure makes for a fun-filled February!

Harper turned 2 on the 11th!

She is such a sweet little girl! I can't get enough of her adorable smile!

And my sweet Evrett turned 7 (I still can't believe it) on the 17th!

Poor little fella had to miss out on being Star of the week in his class, because we took our impromtu trip to Utah!

Luckily his teacher told him he could do it another week before school ends!

Since we were out of town, his birthday celebration was a little different than the Nuttall norm. He was a trooper though! I did manage to take a few of his bday gifts with us to Utah so he would have some to open. And as I said in my last post... he got SNOW for his bday, so I think that made up for anything that was lacking!

I love that smile too!

Utah in February

Although the reason we were there was not ideal, our trip to Utah

last week turned out to be quite fun for the kiddos!

We got word that my Grandma Johnson was not doing well, and thought

it would be a good idea to take my Mom up to see her before it was too late!

We left here on Monday (Valentine's Day)... and got to Fillmore on Tuesday afternoon!

The kids were excited that there were remains of some snow on the ground. So they played in it all afternoon. The forecast called for snow on Wednesday night and we were not disappointed... it snowed and there were about 9 inches of snow at least! Needless to say the kids were ecstatic when they woke up on Thursday morning to a snowy wonderland! It just so happened to be Evrett's birthday on Thursday and he said it was the best birthday present ever!!!

I have been to Flowell many many times and have never seen this sign once!

We went for a drive out to see my Grandparents' old house... in Flowell!

Thomas (my nephew) brought this sled, and was nice enough to share with his cousins. Lots of fun!

As we played and carried on, my Grandma was getting worse everyday. My Mom did get to spend some time with her, and to tell her goodbye.

My Grandma passed away on Friday night.

I am sad that she is gone, but I know that she is happier now and that I will see her again! I am sure my Dad was there with a big hug for her to welcome her home!

The funeral was on Monday and we came home on Tuesday.

It was a long trip with lots of fun, tears, and a great reunion with my Aunts, Uncles, and many cousins!

I am glad to be home!

Looking Forward

This year looks like it is going to be a year with lots of changes for our family ...

hopefully better changes than 2010 threw at us!

The first change of the year, will be not having my Big Brother Richard and his family here in AZ with us anymore. He recently took a great job in Albany, NY... and he and his family are driving to their new home as I am typing this.

On Sunday night (the night before they left) we had them over for a "farewell" dinner. We will sure miss having them close! Who am I supposed to borrow clothes from for job interviews now, and who will bbsit our kids on the fly (besides you Mom)? We will miss them, but wish them the best of luck in NY!!!

Baseball

This Fall season, we signed all 3 boys up for Baseball!

Parker's team was called the Griffins.

Evrett & Fletcher's team was called the Monsters.

It was lots of fun & sometimes challenging with conflicting game schedules...

and even though we had to split up sometimes, we had a great time!

(I think the boys liked it too!)

The season just ended last Saturday... and the boys were so excited to get these!

Fletch turned 5 in October!

My Sister Lori and her family were here from CA,

so he got to have an extra special "Anderson" family birthday party!

The first Saturday after the kids started school, we were REALLY bored just sitting at home doing nothing. So Trev suggested we go for a drive... we ended up at Fountain Hills! Apparently the fountain doesn't work anymore, or wasn't that day... and it was REALLY HOT!!! Still we walked around a bit and found some trees to climb on... well the kids did, while Mom laid in the grass under a big shady tree & Dad got some cute picts!

Back to school!

I can't believe how time is flying by... Today is the first day of school for my 3 boys. Parker is in 4th grade, Ev is in 1st, and Fletcher is starting his 3rd year of Preschool! They were all so excited this morning to put on their new clothes and shoes... grab their new backpacks full of school supplies... and hop on the bus!

There is a little more excitement/anticipation for Parker and Evrett, because today is full of a bunch of firsts for them. They are attending a different school this year than they have for the past couple of years... but they are really excited for the change! It is also their first time to ride the bus to and from school. So exciting!!! I hope they have a great day!

Fletcher will be going back to the same school with the same teacher... whom he LOVES!!! Miss April has been great and we are really happy to have her for the 3rd year. Fletcher also rides the bus, and was happy when it pulled up in front of our house, with Miss Connie behind the wheel! As much as he has loved Preschool... he cannot wait until he gets to go with his brothers!

It has been a good summer, but we were are all ready for school to start again!!!

Fourth of July Weekend

For us... Nothing beats Prescott for the 4th of July! Parade, lots of family, cooler weather, and of course... lots of food!

On Saturday we went to the parade.

A parade in the shade... thanks to Uncle Robert and his lovely canopy things!

First thing Saturday morning, my boys are out pulling snails out of Uncle Robert's pond... and wouldn't leave the nasty, poor little critters alone all weekend.

They even brought them to the parade!

NASTY!!!

Luckily G'ma Bev had candy, and there was lots of soda for all to enjoy!

As tradition would have it... we ventured over to the court house lawn to enjoy ourselves some entertainment and Indian Fry Bread! YUM!

(By far... my favorite part!)

Then of course, a little stroll around the courthouse to check out all the vendors booths!

No pictures, but Parker & Fletch bought some cool bows and arrows, Ev bought an awesome rubber band gun, and Jossy got a cute little fuzzy purse!

Unfortunately I didn't get many more photos of the rest of the weekend, but there was lots of fun had by all! A couple of fabulous BBQ's, water fun for the kids, visiting for the adults, and of course fireworks! All in all it was fabulous!!! And the weather was to die for... it was really hard to come home!

Although not the ideal circumstances... my kids have really lucked out having Treven home for part of their summer break. He sat down with the kids, and made a calendar of an activity that we could do for every day of June. He is so creative and they came up with some fun ideas. One of which was going to a museum. We got my Mom to take the girls for a couple of hours, and Trev and I took the boys to The Arizona Museum for Youth in downtown Mesa.

It was pretty fun!

They had a whole section devoted to baseball. They got to try on baseball shirts... make their own penants and look at all sorts of baseball memorabelia!

There was another section with all sorts of music things. Here they are making their own tamborines...

as well as jamming out with some other instruments.

Next was the art section.

I think the favorite part was the kids play section!

There was a room with dress up things and a stage.

And by far the BEST part of the play area

was the HUGE building blocks!

Had lots of fun!

3 years

This past June 3rd marked the 3 year anniversary of my Father's passing. Both of my sisters happened to be in town for Memorial Day, and it was nice to have a chance to go to the cemetary with my Mom and put a flag up by his headstone. We miss him so much, especially this time of year!

For scouts, the boys were supposed to build something out of wood.

The suggestion was a toolbox, but Angie had a great idea to make flower boxes

for Mother's Day instead!

So they glued and nailed the boxes together, then decorated them

with modge podge and paper.

I think they are adorable!!!

The Long Awaited March 5th

Parker has been waiting so patiently for weeks and weeks for the new Tim Burton movie... Alice In Wonderland to come out in theatres. Friday was FINALLY the big, long awaited day. For a big surprise, Trev and I decided to go get them out of school early, grab some lunch, and go see the movie. When they got in the car, Parker was ecstatic when we told him the plan. Ev on the other hand was not so thrilled... He even started crying. Come to find out, he was supposed to get 2 treats in class that afternoon and was soooo sad that he wasn't going to be there to get them. We told him that he could stay at school if he wanted, but after some deliberation he opted to go with us. We hit up the local McDonald's, stopped at Walgreens for some cheap movie candy, and then on to the movie.

Can I just say that I LOVE Johnny Depp!?! He has to be one of my all-time favorite actors! The movie did not disappoint. Parker loved it... which made it all that much better! I am sure he will post his review of the movie on his blog soon... so check it! It was fun to spend the day hanging out with some of my favorite boys! (Special thanks to my Mom for spending the afternoon with my little ones so that we could go.)

Five Past Nine - LIVE!

Trev's band, Five Past Nine, will be performing tomorrow night (Saturday, February 20th) at Crabby Don's in Mesa. It is located in the (Fry's) shopping center on the SE corner of Val Vista & Baseline. They go on @ 8:00 pm. There is a $5 cover charge at the door, and be sure to tell them you are there to see Five Past Nine.

If you can't make it tomorrow,

Five Past Nine will also be performing at Club Red on March 6th at 6:30 pm.

So bring your peeps and watch these old dudes try to live out their dreams of being ROCKSTARS!

6 Years Old Today... Happy Birthday Evrett!

It feels like we have been celebrating it for days(because we really have), but today was the actual day of Ev's birth... 6 years ago anyways!

And what a fun day it turned out to be!

Ev is Star Student of the week, so we got to make a special poster all about him.

He also got to take in his favorite book today to share with his class.

Blue & Gold

Parker has loved being in Scouts so much. I recently got a calling to be the Assistant Den Leader for the Bears in our ward. Now we can love Scouts together. Parker is still in Wolves but in August we will be together.

This past week was the first of many exciting Scout events to come... The Blue & Gold Banquet! This is the 100th year anniversary of The Boy Scouts of America, so our dinner was more of a birthday celebration of sorts. All american... hot dogs, homemade root beer, and birthday cake to top it all off. It was lots of fun!

Next up... the Pinewood Derby in March! WOO HOO!!!

Change is in the air!

It seems like January was just a whirlwind of changes around our house. Some great and some not so great! I won't delve too much into the details, but some of the fun and exciting changes would be...

A new hairstyle for Evrett... so handsome!!! We like to keep his hair long for the most part, but when we get the itch to have his hair cut, I realize what a handsome boy is hidden under all that hair. And I can't believe the personality change that comes with the new doo!!!

Parker was up for an eye exam, so with the exam came a new prescription, and with the new prescription came new glasses... Another handsome fella!

Last weekend, Harper decided that it was time for her to become a little more independent, and start walking! Yep... she is all over the house like a crazy girl now! I can't believe she is going to be one year old next week! How time flies!

I am hoping that February will bring some more changes our way... good ones! In the meantime, I am thankful for the blessings that we have and enjoy as a family. I am especially thankful for my knowledge and testimony of the gospel and the peace it brings into my life.

One Saturday morning, Fletcher decided that he wanted to cut Josslyn's hair. So he found some scissors and went at it. Joss didn't care, and in fact when I found them she was telling him to cut some more. I was in shock... and then I cried!

Holy cow! I cannot believe Christmas has come and gone already! I have so many things I wanted to post about and pictures, but never took the time to sit and do it... Now it all seems irrelivent. A whole year gone and a new one started! I am excited to set and work on new goals with a fresh start!

Christmas Baptism

Parker's best friend at school is Luis. They were in the same class in 2nd grade, kept in touch over the summer and, even though they are in different classes this year, they're still very close. At Primary a couple of weeks ago, the Primary President gave out pass-along cards to all of the kids and challenged them to give one to a friend in their neighborhood or at school. Parker immediately decided he wanted to give his to Luis. The very next day, we received an invitation to Luis's baptism on December 27th!! It was a little embarrassing that we didn't know that Luis and his family were already members, but Parker let us know that he really wanted to go to the Baptismal service. So this last Sunday evening, Ma, Pa and Parks went to the Stake Baptismal meeting. Luis and his family attend the Spanish speaking branch in our stake. There were 3 children being baptized from our Stake, but 3/4 of the people there were either Luis's family or members of their branch. They probably had close to 100 people there! It was so neat to see that many people turn out to support Luis. When it was his turn to be baptized, we could barely fit everyone into the Relief Society room where the font is. It was cute to see how excited Parker was for his best buddy. After the baptism, we went to the Primary room for the confirmation. It was different for us to hear all the prayers and songs in Spanish. It definitely brought a special spirit to the occasion. It makes you stop and think about things for sure...I mean here we are wrapping up the Christmas season with all of the special events and family gatherings and yet we found ourselves feeling the spirit stronger than we had all month while we trying to sing Teach Me To Walk In The Light in Spanish at this Baptism. I was sure glad that we made the decision to go. I think we all left with an appreciation for our Savior...not just His birth, but His life and His example. Not a bad way to finish the Christmas weekend. It also makes me proud of Parks for choosing good friends.

Fall Break Road Trip

Last week was the boys Fall Break, so we decided to take a few days and go up North to do some site-seeing! The first place we stopped was at Montezuma's Castle. A place that I never even knew existed. It is a really cool structure that was built up in the side of a cliff by Indians a very long time ago. It is amazing that it is still there!

Next stop was Sedona. I had never been to Sedona so we decided to stop for a few hours and check things out. The red rocks were beautiful! We got there just as the sun was going down which just added to the beauty.

The next day, we made our way up to the Grand Canyon. I have been to the Grand Canyon before, but you forget just how big and amazing a place it is. It really makes the mind reel at how something so (I am sorry but there really is no better word to describe) "Grand" really came to be. It was beautiful and the weather was perfect.

We hadn't gotten the stroller out at this point, but Treven was VERY creative!

We went to a few different areas of the canyon, but we ended up by this Watchtower. It was built as a resting point & gift shop, and if you go up into the tower you can see a huge portion of the canyon. I didn't go up, but Trev took Fletcher and Ev up to check it out. He said the view was amazing!

At this point, Parker wasn't feeling well at all. So we decided to stop and have lunch at the Watchtower snack bar.

Joss was trying to give Parker loves to make him feel better!

These are the kinds of trips I remember taking with my family when I was young. Unfortunately I never appreciated them at the time, but looking back I am so glad that we did things as a family to create great memories! I couldn't help but think about my Dad the whole time, because these are the kinds of things he loved to do. I feel so lucky to have married someone with the same love for his family and adventure. (It's an adventure going ANYWHERE with 5 kids... let alone some place like the Grand Canyon!) It was a great trip... one that we will remember forever!

A Very Special Weekend

This past weekend was a very special one for our family! Saturday morning was Parker's baptism! We are so proud of him for his great example and for the sweet spirit he brings into our home! He is quite the little man!

Then Sunday afternoon Treven and some of our close family had the wonderful opportunity of blessing our sweet little Harper! She looked like such an angel in her white dress.

It was a very nice weekend with lots of family around to share it with us! Thanks to all who came!

Growing up too fast!

I can't believe that Harper is going to be 7 months old this Friday. Where has the time gone!?! She has been such a wonderful baby... always happy and smiling! (even when her brothers and sister are torturing her, by trying to carry her around)

This past week she got her first tooth and is on the verge of taking off crawling! It kinda makes me sad because I just want her to stay small. But every new day brings lots of fun... I love watching her discover new things! I feel like I have been able to enjoy her a little more than I did the others, mostly because I finally (after 8 years) feel like I kind of have a grip on this whole Mom thing.

I love them all so much and am so thankful everyday (well almost everyday) that I get to spend my days with them!

For the most part this summer was pretty uneventful for our family. But Parker got to do something really fun! We sent him to Colorado to stay with his Grandpa Ted for a few days. It was his first time flying alone, but he was so brave and didn't have any problems with that at all! Mom was a little nervous about it and got to be the one to take him to the airport to see him off.

I Can't Believe My Baby Girl Is 2!

Miss Jossy Poo turned the big 2 on Aug. 15th. Since there were 2 other Nuttall birthdays in August we decided to just have 1 big birthday get together to celebrate them all!

Here are the other two birthday guests of honor... Parker & Aunty Heather.

And what is a birthday party without a little drama!?! She was supposed to be in the photo above, but did not want to leave Gma Bev's lap. So... she put on a little pouty face for a few minutes!

It doesn't look like it here, but she did finally start smiling and get happy again. She was just so into her fabulous cupcake that she couldn't possibly smile.

One of the highlights of the whole day for me, was watching how my boys enjoyed playing with all of Joss' new baby dolls and doll accessories! Pretty funny!

And of course it is always so much fun to get to see all the cousins! (The only one I am missing is Cash... sorry Heather!)

Back To School

Everyone was so excited for school to start again! Some of us, more than others... I think Ev and I were definitely the most excited ones of all!

Fletcher started school a week earlier than the other boys, and could hardly wait for the bus to come pick him up again! He LOVES to ride the bus, and Mom is glad! Sometimes we even use the bus as motivation to get him to go to sleep at night!!! (It was a little sunny that morning... hence the squint!)

I am so glad these two are such great Buddies! Parker was such a sweetheart to help Ev know where to go and what to do!

Didn't take long for Ev to feel right at home... He dropped his backpack off by the wall and took off for the playground. He even found a little friend from church and played with him till it was time to line up.

This is the part where I would usually have a rough time letting go, but Ev was so confident and excited that he made it really easy on me. Although... he did get a little nervous as the line started moving, and Mom didn't follow. I did feel really bad though for the Moms with crying Kindergartners. That would be rough!

All in all I think he had a great first day of school!

I didn't have my camera on me, but when I went to pick Parker and Ev up from school that day, they came walking across the field holding hands! It was SOOO cute! Wish I had a picture of that! What sweet brothers!

4th of July Weekend

We were undecided on what to do for the long weekend, and our neighbor Angie suggested camping! Sounded like a good time, so we packed up some gear and headed up North for some nicer weather, and some outdoor fun!

The ride up there was an adventure all it's own. We had to stop a couple of times to tie down stuff on the trailer, Joss started throwing up, and as we approached Payson it started storming real good. Lightning, thunder... the whole bit! The kids weren't all that thrilled about it either... as you can see. Along with the weather came horrible traffic. We sat in traffic FOREVER! We finally got to Payson and things cleared up. It took us a while to find somewhere to camp because most of the campgrounds were already full. So, we found a nice secluded spot and pitched our tents.

As the adults were setting up tents and getting everything settled, the kids were exploring the territory. Here is a little frog that they caught. YUCK!

It just so happened that in the spot we chose to camp there was a tire swing all rigged up. The kids were excited about that!

The older kids could hardly wait to go to sleep, because they got to stay in a tent all by themselves! Didn't think it would last long but it did... all night!

After the kids went to sleep we enjoyed the campfire for a bit. Here is the Blake's dog Rhino. I think he enjoyed it more than the rest of us!

Ahhh... Here is what we found when we finally went to our tent to go to sleep. Joss & Fletch keeping each other warm!

As Saturday wore on, we placed bets on what time the rain would roll in. Trev won with a 12:30 guess. Who doesn't love a nice afternoon shower while you're camping!?! The Blake's decided to go for a drive, Trev put Joss and Fletch down for a nap, and Parker, Ev and I just hung out and enjoyed the rain. And some more rain... and then more rain!

Dang... I love a nice nap in the tent when it is raining. Wish it was me!

As you can see it rained PRETTY DANG hard and long. So long that our camp was completely flooded. Pretty much a camping nightmare. Needless to say we decided to call it quits. We started packing up everything in the rain, and wouldn't you know it, by the time we were set to leave, it was sunny and clear. What a pain in the rear!

It was kind of a good thing that we decided to leave early though, because Treven had forgotten his bag with his clothes at home. And the ones he was wearing were completely SOAKED! We decided to stop at WalMart in Payson so he could get some dry clothes, and decided to stay there for the fireworks. Trev's bro. Chad and his family were there for the weekend so we thought we would try to find them... even though both of our cell phones were completely dead! The Blake's headed back to Mesa and we grabbed some food then headed to the park where the fireworks were gonna be at. There were tons of people there and we just happened to go straight to the spot where Chad and fam was sitting. So strange!

I thought Harper would freak out when the fireworks started but to my amazement she just laid back and watched. And by the end of them she was even asleep. We enjoyed the firework show, then headed home. It was the longest 2 days I have had in a LONG time, but well worth it!

Trev has been asking for some updated photos of the girls for his desk at work. So for Father's Day, I asked my SIL Heather to take some photos of us, so we could frame a couple for his desk. (I know I know... What about the boys!?! Let me just say that I couldn't have handled pulling that one off by myself... The two girls were hard enough! Hopefully we will do FAMILY pictures real soon!)

Joss was being a stinker! As you can see, she wouldn't keep her fingers out of her mouth and she WOULD NOT smile for anything!

FHE - Night At The Museum

Our boys have been begging us to take

them to see the new The Night At The Museum movie

since it came out. So... for FHE we decided to get a

sitter for the girls (still too young to really sit thru a movie)

and take all the boys to see it.

Trev and I haven't seen the first one and hadn't heard

very good reviews about this one, so we went in with pretty low

expectations. We both really thought it was funny! And the boys

all loved it! There was one part where I was seriously laughing

out loud! Overall it was a pretty good flick!

Big Girl Bed

Well, I have decided that it is time to make

the transition from crib to toddler bed for Joss!

She has never even attempted to get out of the crib

on her own, which has been quite nice, but I am

getting brave and think I am actually going to

start putting Harper in the crib in her and Joss' room.

She is finally sleeping thru the night and I think I

can handle not having her at arms reach anymore. I

don't know for sure, but we will see.

Anyways, here is Joss' first time sleeping on her new

"Big Girl Bed." It was a nap even, and she went to sleep

just great. Last night was a challenge to get her down

at first, but once she was asleep, she slept all night!

This afternoon, while Harper was sleeping, and the boys were playing at the neighbors house, Joss and I had some time to play with her dolls!

It is so much fun to watch her play with her babies, and wrap them in blankets for her, and help her put them in her stroller. She is soooo cute!

I seriously cannot wait for all the other fun girly things to come... dress up, tea parties, sleep overs. SO MUCH FUN!

My SIL Trac celebrated her 30th B-day a few weeks ago. Unfortunately for us, she was on a cruise so we were unable to get together with her... Until this past Friday night, when we all got together for a surprise dinner/party at San Tan Flat. Another unfortunate thing is that I did not get any pictures of the birthday girl. Domestic Divas

My new BFF Angie... the ambitious lady that she is... has taught me a thing or two in the past couple of weeks.

When raspberries were on sale a couple of weeks ago, Angie was all excited to make jam. So we ran out and bought some raspberries and made jam! It was fun and pretty easy to do. Not to mention DELICIOUS! Can't wait to make all sorts of jam with different seasonal fruits.

Then this week she decided that we should bottle some chicken, because it was on sale. So... we went out and bought some chicken (mine are still too young to eat). Then today we bottled it all up. Looks (and sounds) kinda freaky to me, but she swears it is soooo good! And it will last up to 3 years on the shelf. Hooray for food storage items! I haven't tasted it yet, but I am really wanting to try to bottle up some other stuff for my food storage. It is fun!

Nuttall Zoo Update

So back in April, I posted that my hubby brought home some chicks and a duck. Here are some updated pictures of our fowl. This is Gabby the Duck. Isn't she beautiful? Her feathers are such cool colors. This is a makeshift pond that Trev rigged up for her to swim in, and she loves it!

You can't really see the chickens very well in this picture, but there are now 4 of them. Yep... We got 2 more since my first post. Their names are Gimpy (she's got a messed up leg), Penny, Beatrice, and Nelly... Although I really think Nelly is a rooster. I guess Nelly can be a boy name too... Like the singer dude! Anyways, here is our fancy chicken coupe. I think it's a little small for all the fowl that we have, but it will do for now. It is pretty fun to look out the window and see a bunch of chickens and a duck walking around the backyard. And the best part of it all is that Trev has been the one doing all the work... YEAH for fowl!!!

Tonight we decided to go see the movie UP for Family Home Evening. "This movie has heart and comedy and understanding!"... That was Parker's review of it. All the boys were good and really liked it. Joss was crazy and would not sit still. I missed part of beginning but the parts that I did see were good. I would actually probably buy this one when it comes out! Recommend it to all!

Ohhh... Summer!

It is only the 2nd week of summer and already I am wishing it was over. My house seems to be a never-ending mess, which seems impossible to clean with 4 little kids making messes right behind me as I am cleaning up something else. I think I will lose my mind with all the fighting and tattle-tailing that goes on everyday! What the heck are you supposed to do to keep kids entertained all day!?!?!?!

Today we lost our friend Wubzy! He was a good fish... one who surpassed his life expectancy by a long shot! Ev got him 3 months ago for his birthday and the lady at the store told us that he would probably die by morning. He was a fish with a will to live. However this morning when Ev saw Wubzy "swimming upside down," I was really sad to tell him that the Wubster had died. So, we sent him on his way to fishy heaven. He will be missed!

Last night we went to the much anticipated Kings of Leon concert at Mesa Amphitheatre! May I just say that that has to be one of the best places to see a concert! It was overcast which made for a nice evening outside! Although hot at times due to lots of moving about, it was perfect!

About a week or so ago, I was feeling a little crafty and decided to go to the ribbon store to get some stuff to make hair clips for Joss and some headbands for Harper. Mostly to go with Easter dresses. I got some cute stuff and was excited to get them all put together. The next day, Trev and I walked into our bedroom, and there was Joss sitting on our bed pulling the hair things out of my new "hair stuff" tote. Every time she would take one out, she would inspect it for a second and then say, "Ahhhhh toooooot!" (Her version of Ahhhh Cute!) It was so stinkin adorable... I could just eat her up!

This afternoon I was in the middle of doing some laundry, and Harper started fussing. I would put her pacifier in her mouth but she kept spitting it out. After doing this a few times I decided to try and switch the laundry over while holding her. Once I got into the laundry room I decided to lay her on top of the clean clothes that were folded on the dryer. The vibration and sound of the dryer must be soothing to her, because she immediately stopped fussing and fell asleep. Good thing to remember next time she won't stop fussing!!!

On Sunday night Aunt Cami came over to help us bake some yummy Springtime sugar cookies! She has the best recipe, and I just can't get enough of these cookies. I bought some sprinkles and thought it might be a fun activity for the kids to decorate cookies!

It was lots of fun!

Parker got to roll out the dough!

They all had fun picking out their own shapes and putting them in the dough.

I think more sprinkles ended up on my floor than on any of the cookies. But oh well... they had fun with them anyways!

So Parker & Ev's room was next on my list of monthly home improvements. I had no idea what I wanted to do in there, until one day while shopping at Target, I found some cute bedding... on CLEARANCE of all things. Gotta love that! And it is probably my favorite bedding that I have looked at for boys. (Of course it doesn't hurt that it has orange in it) So with the new bedding as my inspiration, I picked some colors and painted their room. It is not finished yet, because I still need to buy and put up chair rail, but here is what we have so far! We are going to be getting them some new beds and furniture along the way, but I think it turned out nice!

As you can see, I picked the blue and brown for the walls.

I also picked up an extra set of the bedding so I can make some curtains out of the small plaid. I think it will be cute!

Last night the Bennett's invited over for dinner and a movie! We ate BBQ'd hamburgers and hot dogs, and then watched Madagascar 2 outside on the projector. The kids always love going to the Bennett's but when you add in a movie outside, it is the greatest thing ever! And of course the extra bonus is that going to the Bennett's means we get to see Bapa Bev!!!

Today Parker's 2nd grade class participated in a musical at his school. It was about Westward Expansion, so he was supposed to dress up in western clothes. What a handsome cowboy he made! Here are some pictures from after the performance! He did such a wonderful job!

They had two performances... One during school and the other this evening, so he had to wear his cowboy duds to school.

Today was Dr. Seuss' birthday and Parker was way excited! Apparently they have been gearing up for this week at school for a while. Parker can't stop talking about Dr. Seuss. They are dedicating this whole week to the man... with special activities for each day. Today was Green Eggs & Ham day. We were supposed to have green eggs and ham for breakfast, but someone dropped the ball and wasn't prepared (NO green food coloring!) So we had green eggs and ham for dinner. Well... some of us did!

After dinner Parker filled us in on some Dr. Seuss facts, like how each Dr. Seuss book teaches a lesson. The Cat In The Hat teaches that "Enough is enough", Green Eggs & Ham teaches us that "we have to try new things or we won't know if we like it or not", and The Grinch teaches us "how to love."

Then to finish our celebration of Dr. Seuss' birthday (and for FHE) we watched The Cat In The Hat and had popcorn.

Taking the step into parenthood and having kids turns out to be somewhat of an adventure...no matter how well you think you might have planned, there is always something around the corner to surprise you. Sometimes its a challenge or a struggle...then there are the beautiful, blond-haired, blue eyed boys with sweet personalities and loving smiles that make you wonder if you’re not the luckiest parent on earth. You constantly remind yourself that you’re biased and that everyone thinks of their own kid as the most handsome, the most loving, the most intelligent. Then you catch yourself wondering if they really are the most of everything. Ev was born right smack in the middle of 2 brothers who both seem to have the ability to quickly become absorbed in their own little world with little regard to what might be going on all around them. Ev is just the opposite. He is the social butterfly to Parkers introverted little universe...instead of finding a faraway place to hide from his parents like Fletch, Ev is always front and center making sure he is in the know about everything that is going on. He still has a hard time calling us by the right name..I am still “Dad Mom” and Trev is still always “Mom” first. We spent months working on it with him and then I think you get to a point where you find it endearing...I remember when Trev first answered to “Mom”! It cracked me up! Ev is our giggler, our early-riser (thanks Gpa Ted!), our hip-hop dancer and is the most meticulous with his wardrobe. Putting the wrong shirt on him in the morning can lead to a disastrous day! Of all of the day in and day out activities we see with Ev, his desire to be like his brother Parker stands out the most. It’s a good thing they are such good buddies because Ev is at Parker’s side most of the time. There may never be a big brother more looked up to than Parker. There are times when it leads to fights...then again, what siblings don’t fight every now and then. There also those few moments when you know they have been buddies for much longer than the 5 years Ev has been with us. You watch this little, curious, eager boy make his way through life and you realize how great it is to be a parent. Just looking at his little face with his big blue eyes is sometimes overwhelming. You realize how much you trust him with your love more than you thought he would need to trust you. You see all of the goodness and sweetness he is teaching you when you thought you would be teaching him. And more often than not, you look at that beautiful boy and realize that, even though you are the parent, you need him so much more than he needs you. We love you Evee!

Extreme Makeover '09 - Project #1 (almost complete)

My project for the month of January was to get the girls room all painted and decorated how I want it. I am really happy with how it turned out, even though there are still a few things that need to get done, i.e. the chair rail needs to be put up, and I need to clean up the paint in a few spots. Unfortunately these things will probably have to wait until after the baby gets here. Here are some pictures of what we have so far. (the picts are a little dark because I took them while Joss was napping so the lights were off... think you can get the idea though)

Here is her glittery name above her crib! I am hoping to be able to find the same letters for the baby when I know what her name will be for sure!

I finally gave in and bought the dollhouse bookshelf that I have been eyeing for a while. It will serve as a toy storage place now.

Here is the view from the entry side of the room. I founds some cute decals to put on the inset of the window. I think it turned out cute!

A little random I know, but I decided to start a collection of piggy banks for Joss. I just always see really cute ones and thought it would be a fun collection. Here are the 3 she has so far.

Baby Update:

Today was my 35 week appointment with the Dr. and everything seems to be right on track. I can't believe we only have 5 weeks to go! I have been having some good contractions in the last few days and the Dr. said that if I did happen to go into labor this early that everything would be fine... he wouldn't stop me from having the baby at this point. I don't quite think it will be this early but maybe in the next couple of weeks. I am anxious for her to come, but at the same time feel like there is still so much to do.

Fletcher/Ear Update:

Since Fletcher's tubes were put in last Tuesday, he has been talking up a storm. (I think he likes hearing himself.) Not everything is understandable, but there is definitely more words... and it IS getting clearer. His ears have been very sensitive to noise as well, so whenever things get loud he puts his hands over his ears. I am glad that we opted to have the tubes put it... I can see it helping so much already! We have a follow up appointment with the Dr. tomorrow, so we will see how much improvement there really is!

Kathy's Mom Update:

Since many people have been asking me how my Mom is doing after her surgery (which is very nice of you!) I thought I would post an update on her as well. The surgery went well, and the Dr. was able to accomplish what he was hoping to do. The main objective now is for her to stay completely off of her foot, which has been a major issue from the start. She says she is staying off of it as much as she can... if that is enough, I don't know. She actually has an appointment with the surgeon tomorrow, so hopefully the news will be good, and all is healing as it should be!

Joss & Baby's Bedroom Update:

I have decided what I want to do in the baby and Joss' bedroom to finish it up. I actually painted the bottom half of the wall green and white stripes tonight. And then I am going to put chair rail up. Couldn't find any cute wall paper like I was envisioning, so the stripes will have to do. Hopefully it will turn out as cute as I picture it. I will have to post pictures once I take all the tape off tomorrow.

Super Bowl Sunday

Ok... So I am going to admit right now that I am not a huge fan of football and have never taken the time to try and understand how it is played... but how can you not get excited when your hometown team makes it to the Super Bowl? I will further admit that I did not get excited about the game until about three quarters into it. We had all of Trev's family over for a little Super Bowl party and the excitement and enthusiasm was definitely catching. It was an exciting and intense last half... Can't believe we were so close to winning! Oh well... great job Cards on making it to the Super Bowl, and way to give the Steelers a run for their money!

This morning at 5:30 I packed my little Fletcher snuggly in the car and headed to his ear surgery appointment. When we got there he was as happy as could be... not having any clue what was about to happen to him. I felt pretty guilty! As we met with the Dr. he was still happy checking out all the other kids that were there waiting for the same procedure. Once they started to take him from me, he got a little scared and started to cry... which of course made me tear up a little. Poor little boy! As I waited in the recovery waiting room, the nurses brought a couple of other kids out to their parents... screaming and crying. I was really nervous how Fletch was going to handle the whole thing. Then out they came with my sweet little boy, still a little sleepy from the anesthesia, but not crying or screaming, just saying owie every now and then while pointing to his ears. I felt so bad for him. The nurses kept telling me that he won't really be in pain, it will just feel different to him. I think he was in pain! They gave him some juice and we sat there for a while until they said we were ok to leave. After we got in the car, I called Treven at work to tell him how it all went. He asked if he could talk to Fletch, so I gave him the phone. I don't know what Treven was saying, but all I could hear was Fletcher say Daddy, and tears started rolling down his cheeks. He was trying to be so brave. Needless to say... I was tearing up again. I was nervous about how he would be the rest of the day, but as soon as we got home and he was with Joss and Ev for a while, he bounced right back to his normal rambunctious self! I just hope that these tubes will make a big difference and help him to hear better.

Parker is really excited this afternoon too, because the Eye Dr. called to let us know that his glasses are ready to be picked up. He can hardly wait!

Yesterday was Heather's Baby Shower at our house! Cami came up with some really cute decorating ideas from the theme that they are decorating the babies room in... ROCK 'N ROLL!

Last week I got a message from Parker's teacher, saying that she felt he was having trouble seeing the board during class. So I took him to get his eyes tested on Monday and low and behold... he needs glasses! He is near-sided and will have to wear his glasses pretty much all of the time. We spent some time trying to pick out some glasses that we agreed on, and here is what we chose...

Not the best picture, but you get the just of it! (Guess we should have combed his hair before we left the house!) He was really sad that we didn't get to take the glasses with us right then, but he should be sporting his new specs by the end of the week!

And the waiting game begins!

For me this pregnancy has gone by so fast! I can't even believe we are just weeks away from having another sweet baby come into our lives. With everything that is going on with our family right now, time just seems to be flying by. Staying busy with school, Dr.'s appointments, having Gma living with us (it's been a week now) and all of her appointments, and trying to keep up with 4 little ones and their messes seems to have really taken it's toll on me, especially in the past few days! I am beginning to FEEL PREGNANT! I just feel exhausted! And feeling this way only makes me want to slow down in everything I do... which in turn means time will go by slower. With all of my pregnancies before, I remember being so anxious the whole time I was pregnant, having convinced myself that the baby would be early... which makes for a horribly long pregnancy when you end up being close to your due date. With Ev and Fletcher I did have them a little earlier than anticipated by the Dr., but with Parker & Joss it was a matter of days before their due dates. This time I feel like I have been patient, not worrying about when she will come and just being content with being pregnant. Now that I am actually getting quite uncomfortable and tired, I think the waiting anxiously part will begin!

I had my 33 week appointment with my Dr. this morning and everything looks good and seems to be right on schedule. 7 weeks to go! 7... That sounds like such a long time! Hopefully I can just get lost in the busy weeks I have ahead of me, and not go CRAZY in anticipation of the arrival of our new little bundle of joy!

Scooby Doo

When Ev first started talking, he called his Aunt Trac "Scooby Doo" and the name has just sort of stuck ever since. Scooby Doo is blessed in family prayers, written on tags for gifts and I even think Trev has Scooby Doo listed on his cell phone with Tracie's number. Our boys adore her. She has been a big part of our family for a long time, starting with the fact that she was my best friend in Junior High and High School. Years later I met her big brother and we fell in love. Then the kids started coming...Scooby Doo and I shared an apartment at one point when Parker was very little. She's been to the hospital with us for every one of our kids and was even in the room with us when Joss was delivered! We've taken dozens of road trips with her to California, Prescott and Utah. She was with us when we went to New York City for Thanksgiving a few years back. And during all of these trips, she's acted as the nanny/buddy/nosewiping/bum changing Cool Aunt everytime. We can't even start to count how many times she has taken care of our kids for us. There are times when she will show up and take Parks and Ev for a little trip to Target just to get some popcorn or take them for the day when she runs around town. And they love every second of it!! Our kids are spoiled by the wonderful grandparents, aunts and uncles they have. Scooby Doo is actually living with us right now and we have a blast when she is here. There are some nights when only Scooby Doo is allowed to get drinks for the boys before bed. Ev falls asleep most nights on the couch while Scooby Doo tickles his face and plays with his hair. When I watch Scooby Doo and Parker work on homework together or play the Wii together I realize how much our kids absolutely love her. It's such a blessing to have her around and to see that awesome relationship she is building with our kids. I have a feeling that will last forever. We love Scooby Doo and we know someday she is going to make an awesome mom to her kids. The only trouble then will be helping our kids overcome the most certain sense of jealousy they will have when they see someone else experiencing the kindness and affection from their beloved Scooby Doo!

Fletcher

A couple of months ago, I got a call from Fletcher's preschool nurse, informing me that he had failed a regular hearing test that they performed on all the children in his class. She asked me if I thought there might be a problem or if maybe he just had an ear infection or something. I said that could be a possibility because he does tend to have them quite often, so she said she would just try the test again a month later. The next month he failed the test again, and she recommended I take him to an audiologist to have his hearing tested. So last week we went and saw an audiologist and she could not get a proper reading because he had fluid behind his ear drums, so she recommended that we see an ENT (Ear, Nose, & Throat) Dr. to see what they would recommend. Yesterday we went to the Dr. and there was still fluid behind the ear drums and the Dr. said that we had 2 options... antibiotics and wait it out to see if it clears up the problem, or putting tubes in his ears which would bring his hearing back to normal immediately. However based on the fact that Fletcher has been diagnosed with a speech delay, the Dr. said that was a good indication that the fluid had been there quite a while and could very well be contributing to the speech problem. He strongly recommended getting the tubes in his ears. So on Jan. 27th we have an appointment to have the surgery done to get the tubes put into Fletcher's ears. I am so curious to find out if his hearing has been a main factor in his speech problem. It would definitely make sense, but I had his hearing tested about a year ago, thinking that it may be a problem but the tests all said he could hear fine. We will see! I am also a little nervous about the surgery because I have heard it is very painful. My poor little baby! I guess it couldn't hurt much worse than constantly having fluid behind your ear drums!

Mommy Bapa

This past Saturday my Mom (referred to as Mommy Bapa by my children), got released from a rehab/care center where she has been for over a month. She has been experiencing some problems with her feet due to diabetes and was receiving treatment and therapy for that. She opted to come stay at our house for a while, so we can continue to help her get better. She is actually scheduled to have surgery on one of her feet on the 23rd and will probably be coming back to our house for a while after that as well. We are excited to have her here, and so far it has been nice! Hopefully she will be able to handle it with all the craziness that goes on here. Those of you who know her and like to visit with her are always welcome to call or stop by to see her. I am sure she would love visitors just like she did at the rehab place (she will probably get sick of just seeing us all day). If you want to speak to her, feel free to call my cell phone as our home phones are on the blitz right now.

Thank you to all the family & friends who have been so loving and supportive to her while she was in the hospital as well as the rehab center. It is much appreciated!

Extreme Makeover - Nuttall Home Edition

Among the many New Year's Resolutions I have on my list, is one to get our house just the way we want it. Everywhere we have lived since we got married, we have had big ideas of things we wanted to do, such as painting or buying specific furniture... but nothing has ever come of those aspirations. That is all going to change in 2009. Now that we have a house of our own, where we plan on being for quite some time, we are going to gussy it up!

We have decided that for each month of the year, we are going to pick one room and devote the whole month to painting, furnishing, and getting that room just the way we want it. That way we won't feel overwhelmed with having to spend so much money at one time to get the whole house done. Unfortunately I really have no idea what I want to do in most of the rooms, so this could be quite a challenge for me. I am just not the home decor type, so... we will see what happens!

To kick this home improvement project off, I have decided to do the girls room first. I do actually have a few ideas of what I want to happen in there, so I figured it would be a safe place to start. I had a big burst of ambition last week and started taping so I could do some painting, but didn't get to far before the enthusiasm was gone. I am hoping to get a second wind this weekend . With this new baby coming, I am way excited to get the room done and all girlied up!

I will be posting pictures each month as each room/project is in the works! Hopefully I will have some of the girls room to post soon.

Realistic Resolutions

Parker asks Trev "Dad what is a resolution?" Trev thinks for a minute and then tells him its like a goal or a plan and that lots of people set these resolutions at the start of the new year. Parker wants to know what kinds of resolutions do people set. Trev tells him people will make a goal to exercise more often or save more money or spend more time with family or make improvements around the house. Parks thinks for a second and then asks "So could I make my resolution that this year I will hunt down and find Bigfoot?" Now Trev asks me...do I think Parker is just in a creative little boy mode or did he hear all of the examples of resolutions and decide they are just as impossible as finding Sasquatch....????

What do you do on New Years Eve when you have no babysitter? Rock it out at home!

We had no plans, so Treven decided to invite some people from work over for some pizza, munchies... and a little Guitar Hero! It was really fun! We set the game up on the projector and made the front room into the band room. Trev and the fellas spent most of the night in there jammin out, while the girls gabbed and watched the Times Square festivities in the family room!

Hook Me Up! (Nuttall Family Christmas dinner)

Even though it took a few days to get it together (due to illness at our house) we were determined to have a Nuttall Christmas dinner! Saturday evening, everyone (minus Aunty Nichole and the new babes... whom were missed very much) came to our house for some yummy Mexican food and a good time! After dinner the (big) Nuttall brothers had some fun with the kids, playing what my boys like to call "Hook me up" along with some other random activities! My favorite comment of the evening was when Chad said, "I don't do this at home!" It struck me as particularly funny because activities like this are an almost daily occurance at our house... since we have mostly boys! However Chad has mostly girls... so I guess it just wouldn't be something that he does regularly... but I think he was really enjoying it! I know the kids all loved it! Once things calmed down, we played what is known to the Nuttall family as the M&M game. A game that they all played growing up, every Christmas at their Grandma Burk's house in Prescott. It was lots of fun! We wrapped up the evening with Gma Bev opening her big gift from all the kids! She was super excited about the keyboard she has been wanting for a few years now. As always, it was lots of fun getting together with everyone for a little bit of Christmas fun!
